Rules and regulations

  1. All runners must carry their cold weather gear, beanie, gloves, lights with an extra set batteries (or two separate lights / headlamps with new batteries), whistle, reflective gear, blink lights, as well as hydration and nutrition, and other supplies.
  2. All runners and crew should not spend very long time on top of any of the 5 high passes, RohtangLa, BaralachaLa, NakeeLa, LachungLa & TanglangLa. (Max 15min).
  3. The race number must be worn and visible at all times during the race. It can be placed anywhere obvious: hat, hydration pack, number belt, chest or back of shirt, etc.
  4. There are mandatory intermediate cut-offs along the route.
  5. Make your presence known at all timing (cut-off) stations. These stations will also have mandatory medical checks.
  6. All runners and crew should be ready and packed to leave at the allotted time for avoiding any delay in the race.
  7. Runners will be transferred to the race start points each day in allotted vehicles as per race category. You need to report at the same vehicle after finishing the day’s course. Once all the category participants finish the race, the vehicle then will transfer everyone to the respective campsites.
  8. The weather at night is extreme. Everyone is expected to wear proper cold weather clothing.
  9. The runners, crew and staff are compulsorily needed to go for an evening walk around the campsite for proper acclimatization.
  10. All runners and crew shall be required to sign a personal liability waiver in order to participate in the run.
  11. It is a condition of entry that all runners and crew have suitable insurance covering them for taking part in this event. Any competitor without the necessary insurance will not be allowed to take part.
  12. Runners, crew, and staff must not litter or pollute the landscape or environment.

[/lvca_panel][lvca_panel panel_title=”SUPPORT CREW AND ASSISTANCE”]

  1. The support will be provided through mobile aid stations at regular intervals (4-5 Kms). The mobile aid station comprises of a four wheeled motor vehicle and a minimum of 2 crew members, at least one of whom can speak English and other will be fluent in local Himachali and Ladhaki language.
  2. Energy drinks, food and a pre specified hydration kit will be available at each of these stations.
  3. Items like spare clothes, gear, personal energy drinks need to be put in a day sack with your luggage tag and handed over to the organizers before the start of the race.
  4. Please don’t put runners under any undue pressure to finish faster or sooner.
  5. Runners must progress under their own power without any type of physical assistance. If found taking support through other means such as bicycle, car or any other vehicular means, runner will be disqualified and taken off course.
  6. Support crew is encouraged to accompany runners on bicycles on the course if desired.
  7. Sitting in cars with rolled up windows is not recommended at 15,000 ft and above.
  1. Make your presence known at all timing (cut-off) stations.
  2. All runners, crew and staff are requested not to litter the environment. There will be garbage bags in each support vehicle and all waste items should be dumped in it. The garbage will be disposed properly at Leh.

[/lvca_panel][lvca_panel panel_title=”SAFETY AND MEDICAL ISSUES”]

  1. Safety is the most important issue at any given situation. This means safety for racers, crew, staff, and the general public. The roads are not closed for this event and may be, in fact, quite busy with tourist and local traffic.
  2. The area in which this event takes place is extremely remote with few or no medical facilities. In the event of an emergency it may be necessary to evacuate an injured or seriously ill competitor by Ambulance.
  3. If runner is administered oxygen for life support, runner will be, for safety reasons taken off the course.
  4. If runner needs to be hospitalized for any reasons. The runner shall not be allowed to continue further in the race.
  5. Runners and support crew must always stay on 1 side of the road, facing the oncoming traffic. Although the traffic is very less on Manali-Leh highways, it is regularly used by Army and you will find large passing Army convoys.
  6. All runners & crew members should go through information on Altitude Sickness, High altitude Cerebral Edema (HACE) and High Altitude Pulmonary Edema (HAPE) mentioned in the document.

[/lvca_panel][lvca_panel panel_title=”LEAVING THE COURSE OR WITHDRAWING”]

  1. Each runner must cover every inch of the course. In the event of a routing error, e.g., wrong turn, the racer may be driven back to the exact original spot where he/she left the course and continue running from that location. There will be no allowance made for lost time or miles run in the wrong direction.
  2. If a runner chooses to withdraw from the course for any reason, he/she will be transferred to Leh depending upon the conditions. All racers and crew who drop are encouraged – and expected – to come to the finish line and the post-race party to greet and celebrate with their fellow racers and crews.
  3. All Emergency Evacuation costs for participants or crews will be borne by that person or their heirs. The race organizers are in no way liable or responsible for emergency evacuation.

[/lvca_panel][lvca_panel panel_title=”MEDICAL CERTIFICATE”]It is mandatory that runner have a certificate of fitness signed by a certified doctor or medical practitioner, certifying that you are fit enough to participate in Great Himalayan Running Festival (GHRF) or running in High altitude(2800 mtr-5500 mtr). Runner will only be allowed to run in the GHRF after submitting the medical certificate upon arrival at Manali.[/lvca_panel][lvca_panel panel_title=”LIABILITY”]The Organiser will not be responsible for any damage to personal property or for injuries during the event and cannot be held liable for any cancellation, delays or rerouting due to any environmental or unplanned concern.[/lvca_panel][lvca_panel panel_title=”INSURANCE”]Travel and Adventure Sports insurance are mandatory for all participants. You will not be allowed to participate otherwise. We will not be associated with any insurance company during the race, but will assist you with getting in touch with relevant people and associated companies. [/lvca_panel][/lvca_accordion]


[lvca_accordion style=”style3″][lvca_panel panel_title=”CONCLUSION OF THE CONTRACT”]

  • To participate in GHRF 2017, you have to be at least 18 years of age at the start of the run and in adequate athletic shape.
  • Your signature on the registration form or your clicking of the appropriate field during the online registration process indicates that you accept and understand all term and condition of the run regulations. You acknowledge and assure that you have read, accept and will abide all run rules and regulations.
  • The Organizers are not responsible to provide any services other than the ones mentioned. Additional services, in particular with regard to personal and technical support are only owed if agreement on such matters were reached in writing ahead of the actual event.

  • Each runner is responsible to ensure adequate physical and mental preparedness for running at high attitude for the GHRF, if necessary in conjunction with medical consultation. Participants accept full responsibility for their belongings and it being in good working order. Runners are obliged to heed all directives and guidelines by the run organizer and any instructions by run staff and any aides.
  • Foreign nationals are advised to obtain all necessary information from the respective consulates. It is the responsibility of each participant to make sure that they have obtained valid travel authorization and documents, which may be required for participation in GHRF.

[/lvca_panel][lvca_panel panel_title=”TERMINATION OF CONTRACT BY ORGANIZERS”]The Hell Race may cancel a contract with a runner if:

  • The runner violates the run rules and regulations that are issued to the runner prior to or during the event.
  • The runner interferes with/ disrupts the event in a lasting manner or presents a threat to him/ her or others.
  • The case of a cancellation by the race organizer does not change their entitlement to the prepaid race fee.

[/lvca_panel][lvca_panel panel_title=”WITHDRAWAL BY THE PARTICIPANTS”]Withdrawal from event participation with full reimbursement of paid race fee is possible until 15 days of the day on which the payment was received and only in writing by post.[/lvca_panel][lvca_panel panel_title=”TERMINATION OF RACE”]In case the race was to be cancelled or terminated due to an act of God or a participant does not show up at the race, for reason that the race organizers cannot be held accountable for, the participant is not entitled to any reimbursement of race fees or compensation.[/lvca_panel][lvca_panel panel_title=”DISCLAIMER”]

  • Participation in the GHRF 2017 is strictly at your own risk. The liability of the event organizers – including third party claims – is limited to deliberate intent or gross negligence. This also applies to any of the auxiliary person or agents that are deployed in the event by the organizers. Any contractual liability of the race organizer for damages is excluded as long as they do not involve or result from grossly negligent or intentional acts.
  • The race organizers cannot be held liable for any defaults in services that relate to external services by third parties for whom the race organizer only serve as an intermediary contact and which were clearly identified as external services within the description of event services.
  • The event organizer cannot be held liable for any fault in services that are the result of statutory provisions or official directions, which prevent the participant from running in the event altogether or in part.
  • The race organizer cannot be held liable for participant’s lost or stolen clothing, valuable or equipment. Participants are advised to carry adequate insurance.
  • If a participant requires or enlist third party services, in particular search and rescue services, the event organizers are indemnified from payment. The participant further authorizes the event organizers to collect any charges.
  • By registering to the event participants acknowledge their consent with the collection, circulation and publication of event related data, such as individual’s timing and results as well as photographs, movie and interview records without any remuneration to them.

  • 25% refund – Cancellation 15 days before event.
  • 50% refund – Cancellation 30 days before event.
  • 80% refund – Cancellation 60 days before event.
