The nearest airport is ‘Dharamsala-Kangra Airport’ at Gaggal, located approximately 14km from Dharamshala. Domestic flights connect Gaggal with Delhi, Mumbai and Chandigarh. Once at the airport, you can make the onward journey of 68km to Bir by bus or a prepaid taxi. However, owing to weather conditions, flights are not the most reliable option for getting to or out of Kangra region.

By Bus:

Bir-Billing is still a lesser known tourist destination and not very well-connected to major cities. A network of state-run as well as private local buses connects Bir to important tourist destinations like Shimla, Kullu, Dharamshala and New Delhi.

There is only one direct air-conditioned HRTC volvo bus from New Delhi to Bir, which departs from Kashmiri gate ISBT at 6:45 PM and arrives in Bir at 6:30 am. The bus journey from Delhi to Bir is 575km, and it is advisable to book your tickets in the air-conditioned Volvo coaches, as the buses are more comfortable than ordinary ones, keeping in mind the long distance of the journey. Alternatively, many volvo buses connects Delhi or Chandigarh to Baijnath and Joginder Nagar, which is 16kms away from Bir.

Road/Self Drive:

The drive up to Bir is simply breath-taking! You can catch scenic glimpses of the adjoining mountains and valleys from almost every turn that the twisty uphill road throws you in. Though a lot of tourists prefer a self-drive up to Bir, it is advisable to hire a taxi in case you are not comfortable with driving in mountainous regions.[/lvca_panel][lvca_panel panel_title=”THINGS TO DO IN BIR”]Paragliding
